KOTA KINABALU: A shortage in vaccine supply was behind the drastic drop in the number of shots administered in the state today, said Sabah’s official Covid-19 spokesman Masidi Manjun.

Masidi, who is local government and housing minister, said the overall number of shots given today was 7,299, compared to the 20,622 yesterday.

However, he said the state just received a fresh batch of 152,100 doses this evening, with another round expected later this month.

“The vaccine supply (in Sabah) has gone down but we have received the new batch today and are expecting another 308,880 doses to arrive on July 28,” he said.

State leaders have previously spoken out against the poor supply of vaccines to Sabah recently and urged the federal government to expedite the shipments.

Masidi said there was no first dose injection under phase one of the Covid-19 national immunisation programme today, meaning the cumulative shots for the first dose remained at 65,396. It was the same for the second dose, with the overall shots administered remaining at 58,415.

For phase two, he said, 5,488 first doses were given, bringing the cumulative number of doses to 451,290. At the same time, 1,782 second doses were administered, pushing the cumulative doses to 309,436.

Masidi said 6,723 new vaccination registrations were received today, with the total registration standing at 36.7%, or 1,012,791, now.

“From the figure, 931,045 people registered through MySejahtera, 81,483 through the website and 263 through the vaccination hotline,” he said. - FMT
