Health DG encourages use of face shields in public
The government only requires people to put on a single face mask as a mandatory measure against the Covid-19 pandemic but Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah is encouraging additional actions.
Noor Hisham, who previously urged people to double mask, is also recommending the use of face shields.
"We need to adopt the practical application of face shields, which can be quickly and affordably produced and distributed.
"It should be included as part of strategies to safely and significantly reduce transmission in the community setting," he said in a statement on Facebook.
Noor Hisham, in his public appearances, has also been sporting double masks and a face shield.
This is amid the emergence of more virulent and resilient Covid-19 variants.
The Health Ministry previously cited information from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention which showed double masking can improve protection against Covid-19 infection.
This involves wearing a cloth mask on the outside and a surgical mask on the inside.
