PM to seek confidence vote in September

Malaysia Bharu: It is a disgrace that this country is being held to ransom by an autocratic backdoor regime without proven majority and is given an extension of time to prove its majority.

Despite having the largest cabinet in proportion to the population, this extension can entail more cabinet and GLC (government-linked companies) appointments to shore up the sinking PM.

But one good thing about this turn of events is it slams shut the corrupt warlords and their minions lurking in the shadows to loot the remnants and feather their nest.

Who knows? That could have been the salient cause of the latest decision to let sleeping dogs lie or settle for the lesser evils.

OCT: The delay in the vote of confidence shows Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin doesn't have a parliamentary majority. If he has the majority, he won't wait until September. He will show it now.

It seems the time has come for more horse-trading. Yes, don’t be surprised if there are a few more ministers, deputy ministers and GLC heads this month.

If the rakyat take a long, hard look at this incident, they will realise the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government is not here to manage the country. We should expect for the whole of this month, their focus will be on keeping the prime minister and cabinet ministers alive.

PN has spent more time politicking than looking after the welfare of the rakyat.

BusinessFirst: Muhyiddin will claim he has support even if he does not. He has not shied away from lying and that is why he and PAS get along so well.

Remember the National Security Council (NSC) meeting to fight Covid last year? He did not invite opposition menteris besar and chief ministers to attend the meeting. Later, government chief secretary Mohd Zuki Ali took the blame for “forgetting” to invite them.

Then he said no politicking to focus on fighting Covid, but he went and undermine the governments of Johor, Perak, Malacca, Sabah, etc. He even said no more lockdowns, yet here we are in a movement control order (MCO) for months.

So whatever he says, you know it is almost likely that he will do the opposite. The odd and sad thing is that all this lying and betrayal suggest that it is almost pathological.

The only thing is that this has gone so far, and his credibility is near zero, that even the extra time will not save him. The promises he gets and the money he spends now will be wasted. Many may claim to support him and then on the day of the vote, change their minds.

I note also there has been no apology tendered by the attorney-general or the de facto law minister for misleading the Parliament and defying the king in how they tried to push through the revocation of the emergency ordinances without a vote.

Apa Nama: @BusinessFirst, an administration based on lies and betrayals? Oh, my goodness. Where all these will lead to is anyone’s guess.

Looking at the rate of vaccination and the way they let the public roam freely despite high Covid cases, I believe it was deliberately done to ensure the numbers stay at a dangerous level so that the Health Ministry director-general and political advisers will advise him of what he wants to hear.

We will only believe him when the confidence vote really takes place.

These MPs are so shameless, they are not bothered about the country's economy and welfare of the people. God bless Malaysia.

Anonymous 5035: Muhyiddin will not quit. Despite being the most useless prime minister around. Despite the anger and disgust of the rakyat. Despite the tanking of the economy. Despite Covid-19 ravaging the country. Despite the rising suicides. Despite rising poverty.

He must be one of the luckiest or the most powerful prime minister around. He can even flip the bird at the king and get away with it. Others who are more respectful to the king won't be given a chance to prove their majority. They will probably be told to back off.

It looks like it's a case of #rakyatjagarakyat. So, everybody, don't hold your breath.

Sun: A vote in Parliament should have been taken from the very start after he was picked by the king as PM last year. This is the proper way to demonstrate support in the House.

The Perak precedent of using SDs (statutory declarations) that are not worth the paper they are written on and carry no penalty for ignoring a solemn declaration that was made, should be buried forever.

This decision, brought about no doubt by pressure from His Majesty, is a good start. May this become the precedent to be followed by all state rulers as well.

The SD culture must be obliterated as it has no place in a functioning democracy where the House reigns supreme.

Malaysia Tulin: The PM is dragging the country into a “state of uncertainty”. By delaying the vote of confidence, the whole country and business sector are going to adopt a “wait and see” approach. In the meantime, more people will lose jobs, businesses will close down, and investors will not come in.

He should call for a special sitting of the Parliament the latest by next Monday, Aug 9, to test his majority and settle this once and for all.

These delay tactics won’t work. PN is not proving they will solve issues such as the Covid-19 crisis and the economic downturn, etc.

IndigoTrout2522: The opposition and Umno should work together and show the Agong that Muhyiddin does not have majority support.

Muhyiddin knows how to play politics well. The opposition leaders should not be so laid back. It is time to push to the finish line.

Change should take place now. Once the Agong is presented with concrete evidence, he may order Muhyiddin to convene Parliament immediately for a confidence vote.
