Covid-19 deaths (Oct 12): 93 reported fatalities, total at 27,422
COVID-19 | The Health Ministry's Github data repository reported a total of 93 Covid-19 fatalities yesterday (Oct 11), bringing the cumulative death toll to 27,422.
From the newly reported deaths yesterday, 17.2 percent or 16 died before they could receive treatment at a hospital.
Penang recorded the highest number of new deaths at 26.
The remaining deaths were in Sarawak (14), Johor (8), Kuala Lumpur (7), Sabah (6), Kedah (5), Kelantan (5), Pahang (5), Malacca (4), Perak (4), Selangor (4), Negeri Sembilan (2), Perlis (2) and Terengganu (1).
No new deaths were reported in Labuan and Putrajaya.
A total of 80 out of the 93 reported deaths or 86.0 percent happened in the last seven days.
The remaining deaths happened more than a week ago but were only recorded yesterday due to delays in data reporting.
An average of 233 Covid-19 deaths were reported daily in the last 30 days compared to the seven-day average of 95, indicating a downtrend.
To date, 1,214 Covid-19 deaths have been reported this month.
As of yesterday, there were 112,379 active Covid-19 cases. This is a reduction of 21.3 percent from the 142,861 active infections a week ago.
Compared to 30 days ago, the number of active cases has fallen by 53.0 percent from 239,352.
The Health Ministry's post-midnight update also provided further insights into the new Covid-19 infections yesterday.
This included a breakdown of infection in the states:

From the 6,709 new cases yesterday, a total of 282 of them could be traced to ongoing Covid-19 clusters.
From the cluster-linked cases, 137 were from community transmissions while 105 (37.2 percent) were from workplaces.
Another 28 were from clusters linked to high-risk groups such as old folks homes.
The remaining cases were traced to clusters related to education institutions (7 - 2.5 percent) and religious events (5 - 1.8 percent).
Previously, the Health Ministry released deaths statistics together with the number of new Covid-19 cases in the evening. This had since changed.
Deaths statistics are now released after midnight along with other more detailed data. Malaysiakini reports them in the morning.
