PAS leader offers 'cooperation chain' to link up Umno and Bersatu

BobbyO: Whatever agreement that Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin and PAS leader Abdul Hadi Awang had does not put Perikatan Nasional (PN) in a good position to win the elections in Malacca. If Pakatan Harapan and Umno team up, PN will be history.

PAS needs the Umno machinery to make an impact. This fact is known by certain party leaders. PAS knows that by using the PN logo, they are taking a huge risk.

That is why there are other leaders in PAS who do not agree with this arrangement. They are trying to reach out to Umno to go into battle united.

The gap between Umno and Bersatu is already too far to bridge. There is no way there can be two tigers on a single hilltop.

Bersatu has been shoved off from the pole position by Umno. It is not going to continue playing second fiddle to Umno all the time. Making an impact at the Malacca polls is the only avenue for Bersatu to regain its pride and position.

Mazilamani: PAS knows that a partnership among all race and religion-based parties will have a huge draw among the bumiputera.

Malacca is historically noted for its strong unity among the races. This may go against the three Malay parties - unless things have changed in recent times.

PAS, as it can be seen, is quite willing to work with any parties that have a better chance at winning, be it at the state or federal level. PAS is desperately looking for the governing experience to fulfil its long-term Islamic rule agenda.

The future of any state, and Malaysia, is now in the hands of Malaysians. Pray that we act wisely in the interest of the nation and the future of our children. We must be prepared to depart from our narrow mindedness, whatever our race or religion may be.

I pray broad-minded young Malaysian political leaders from the different political parties will come together to save the nation.

Kuniyo: PAS is weak in Malacca. In the last GE, it contested 25 seats there and lost all. Umno won 13, enough to make it at least the kingmaker. PAS just wants to piggyback on Umno’s strength to expand in Malacca.

OCT: PAS is a sneaky party. It seems that PN has offered better incentives to PAS, such as more senior positions in their coalition if PN wins the election, whereas Umno is not willing to do so.

It is not about how PAS can help Malacca to progress and prosper.

Not Bitten Twice: Why not add one more ring to the diagram (hand-drawn by PAS leader Nasrudin Hassan) and make it into the iconic Olympic five-ring logo?

Its chances of winning then would be as slim as winning Olympic gold.

PAS sticks with PN logo as Umno's courtship hits brick wall

Notanonymous: It was an easy decision (to contest under PN logo) for PAS to make as they have nothing to lose.

If Umno wins handsomely, I’m sure PAS will use some “wonderful” reasoning to go back to Muafakat Nasional with its tails between its legs. If somehow, PN wins a few seats and gets to be kingmaker, they get to demand more seats in GE15.

If Pakatan Harapan wins due to the split vote, PAS can also demand more from Umno or risk the same outcome in GE15.

So, for PAS, this is not much of a gamble, just a litmus test.

LimeLynx4814: PAS has enjoyed the ministerial posts and would not want to leave the PN cabinet.

It seems that PAS has made up its mind despite its earlier alliance with Umno, and the latter is now the lone ranger in Malacca.

Don’t worry, you can still count on the “political frogs” in Malacca after the polls.

MosquitoBrain: PAS wants the best of both worlds. Their love for power, position, wealth and Bersatu, overwhelmed their love for Umno and Muafakat. How much more can PAS bend its principles?

It looks like poor BN-Umno has to look for “donation” to allegedly pump in another RM90 million to salvage its marriage of convenience with the Islamist party.

Siva1976: This is the PAS we all know. They are willing to “sleep” with any party so long as there are perks.

In the late 80s, they “slept” with Semangat 46, then they “slept” with Pakatan Rakyat. Soon after, they “slept” with BN under Muafakat Nasional. Now, they are “sleeping” with Bersatu under the Perikatan Nasional banner.

Damm: I think PAS made the right decision in choosing PN.

Under Muafakat, it is just a loose partnership, and knowing Umno, once they have sufficient seats to form a government, they will ignore PAS.

Umno is just making use of others in order to get the throne. In the Sheraton Move, Umno, PAS and Bersatu were able to get together to oust Harapan from power.

Harapan must also take the blame for making promises to the rakyat that they can't deliver. Umno sees the opportunity and harps on these issues, along with the usual irresponsible race and religion-baiting.

Whatever it is, we hope that Umno will lose miserably in the Malacca polls and they will need to change their top leadership at the national and state levels.
