Keep to gentleman’s deal, S’wak DAP tells PKR
KUCHING: Nomination day is just a day away but PKR has yet to announce if there will be any seats overlapping those being eyed by DAP and Amanah in the May 7 Sarawak state election.
The party’s ally and possible competition, DAP, is getting edgy as it waits for PKR to finally announce the remaining five seats it is keeping a mystery.
According to previous reports, the five state seats which see interest from all three components of the Opposition pact, Pakatan Harapan, are Mambong, Ngemah, Simanggang and the new seats of Mulu and Murum.
DAP state chief Chong Chieng Jen, speaking to FMT, reminded both PKR and its Deputy President Azmin Ali to be gentlemen and stick to the agreement that both parties had signed.
He also said that rather than continuing the feud over just a few seats, the parties should concentrate their resources into defeating their common enemy, Barisan Nasional.
“That’s what we (DAP) are doing. There’s no point negotiating further. If they want to talk, they can talk to me.
“But let us be gentlemen and keep to what we have agreed. After all, if a leader cannot keep to his word, then he is not fit to be one,” said Chong.
PH national leaders had earlier this month agreed to compromise with regards to the seat distribution. If possible, they want a straight fight between Pakatan parties and BN.
Chong has already unveiled the 30 seats that DAP would be contesting in Sarawak’s 11th state election. To comply with the Sarawak Pakatan agreement, the party had to make some adjustments to its initial plans.
Parti Amanah Negara had also announced its finalised list on Friday.
PKR, while having done the same, still refused to divulge any details on five of its 40 seats.
Azmin, speaking to FMT yesterday, expressed hope that the matter would be resolved by Sunday, the day before the nomination. Yet, no news has followed since.
Sarawak BN leaders had also taken a jab at the Opposition’s feud, with ministers such as Fadillah Yusof predicting a fallout between DAP and PKR.
There are 82 seats to be contested in the May 7 Sarawak election.
