Liu urged to reconsider resignation from UPP

KUCHING: Former UPP president Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh urged former UPP Batu Kawah chairman Liu Thian Leong to reconsider his resignation from the party to contest as an independent in the coming state election.

He said Liu must look at the bigger picture that is to ensure maximum victory for BN and for Team Adenan.

“I appeal to Mr Liu and his supporters to retract their resignation and to return to UPP,” Wong, who is BN Bawang Assan candidate said in a statement.

Liu, in his response to Wong’s statement said he decided to contest as an independent because he could really feel and hear the cry for political reform and development in Batu Kawah.

“Many people have been waiting in vain for decades and they would not trust certain parties anymore. If I don’t contest, many would cast their votes to the opposition and may undermine the chances of BN victory even more.

“I believe that my role as an alternative choice may contribute to the overall success of BN because I am and will remain BN mesra or friendly.”

Liu announced his resignation from UPP last Friday (Apr 22) to contest as an independent candidate in Batu Kawah in the coming state election.

Following his resignation, 30 leaders of UPP Batu Kawah branch had also announced they would resign from the party on the same day in a show of support for Liu.
