HIMSELF THE MOST UNPREPARED, YET NAJIB DARES UMNO: CAN I DISSOLVE PARLIAMENT TOMORROW?

KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak teased Umno supporters tonight by asking if they were ready in the event he called for a general election tomorrow.

Speaking at Umno’s 71st anniversary celebration at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium, it was his most direct hint so far about the 14th general election that is increasingly expected to be held this year, ahead of schedule.

“Are we prepared enough? Can I dissolve Parliament tomorrow?” Najib said.

“We are not afraid, we are not shaken by whatever challenges that we face from the Opposition. We face it with full strength.”

The previous general election was held in 2013 and the next edition is not due until next year, but recent developments such as increased wrangling over candidacies and constituencies have fuelled speculation that it may be called this year.

The Umno president also urged members to be loyal to the party that has consistently championed Malay and Muslim rights.
