Awang Adek Hussin appointed Mara chairperson

Former deputy finance minister Awang Adek Hussin has been appointed the chairperson of Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara), starting Sept 1, 2017.
Rural and Regional Development Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob made the announcement in a statement today.
According to him, Awang Adek's appointment received the consent of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.
"I believe with Awang Adek's vast experience, he will be able to lead Mara in carrying out the ministry's plans and policies towards achieving the objectives listed in the National Transformation Plan," said Ismail.
Awang Adek, 62, last served in the cabinet as the deputy finance minister between 2013 and 2016. He was then posted as the Malaysian ambassador to the United States from 2014 to 2016. He has also served in various other ministries.
Awang Adek will be replacing Umno information chief Annuar Musa, in chairing Mara.

The Ketereh MP was suspended as Mara and Pelaburan Mara Bhd (PMB) chairperson in January this year to facilitate investigations into his alleged involvement in the sponsorship of the Kelantan football team, The Red Warriors.
The sponsorship was controversial due to conflict of interest concerns, as Annuar was also the Kelantan FA president at that time.
Annuar was summoned by Mara's internal audit committee pertaining to the matter and the issue is also being probed by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC). - Mkini
