'I'll not be silenced' - Mahathir refuses to be intimidated

Dr Mahathir Mohamad believes that the fracas which erupted at the Nothing to Hide 2.0 forum was an attempt to silence him.

Refusing to be intimidated, the 92-year-old former premier vowed to continue speaking the truth.

"There is a party which wanted to use violence to silence me. It is not possible. I will speak out as usual.

"I have always been frank, someone who speaks what I think is the truth. I don't care how people react (to this), the truth must be voiced out

"I have faced all sorts of problems in politics, we need to be prepared for these challenges. I am not shaken because (be it) a riot or something bigger planned, this will not break my spirit," he said in a video uploaded on Facebook this evening.

Mahathir, who is Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) chairperson, claimed that evil would reign if the people are afraid to speak the truth.

The former premier was responding to a question on the Memali incident when flares were ignited and chairs, as well as slippers, were thrown in his direction during Sunday's forum in Shah Alam.

The opposition has pointed the finger at Umno. However, Umno leaders claimed that it was dissatisfaction towards Mahathir's answer which sparked off the ruckus.

The police have arrested 10 people in connection with the case.

In his video, Mahathir also advised members of Bersatu Youth, which organised the forum, not to be disheartened and to continue the struggle.

"I want to remind them that in politics, there are times we have fun and there are times we face challenges and hardship, but this should not weaken our spirit.

"We must continue to fight for the betterment (of the country) and this is the duty of the youth because they will inherit the country.

My supporters who intend to topple Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak should not tremble... and fear no one," he added. - Mkini
