AMBIGA PIPES UP FOR SNEAKY AZMIN AGAIN BUT ONLY ONE SIDE OF STORY IS TOLD: ‘HARAPAN NEEDS TO TALK TO PAS’ – BUT OF COURSE. AT SAME TIME, AZMIN & GANG MUST START PREPARING FOR MULTI-CORNER FIGHTS & NOT BE LULLED BY PAS

KUALA LUMPUR – Pakatan Harapan should continue to negotiate with PAS to avoid three-cornered fights in the 14th general election, said Datuk Ambiga Sreenavasan.

Speaking at a forum here in Bangsar on Wednesday night, she said that the Opposition is very unlikely to win seats with three-cornered fights and therefore should try to minimise these.

“I’m not suggesting working with PAS. I’m suggesting an electoral arrangement or pact with them,” she told the audience.

“What I’m suggesting by way of an electoral pact is this: Come to an agreement with PAS that they don’t run in ‘X’ constituency so you don’t knock me out and I won’t run in ‘Y’ constituency so I don’t knock you out.

“That’s all,” the former Bersih 2.0 chairman said.

The basis for her argument was that was easier for the Opposition to win seats in a straight fight with Barisan Nasional.

“You continue negotiating (with PAS) until you minimise the three-cornered fights. I’m not saying you work with them after that,” she said.

Ambiga alleged that her stance on the matter, as well as that of those who shared her views, had been misrepresented by “certain people.”

“They go around saying that we are suggesting that you work with PAS as a member of the coalition. That is not true. That is not what we are saying. We’re saying, be strategic,” she said.

The forum was also attended by PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil and Tricia Yeoh, chief operating officer of the Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs (Ideas).

Talks between PAS and PKR have drawn significant criticisms in recent weeks, culminating in the announcement by Pakatan’s presidential council that the Opposition coalition would break ties with the Islamist party.
