Father in China Demands Payment From Doctor Who Cut Son’s Clothing During Life-Saving Emergency
A father in central China is drawing flak for demanding compensation from an emergency room physician who damaged his son’s clothing while trying to save his life.
The son, surnamed Li, was rushed to the Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University in Hubei Province after passing out due to arterial blockage on September 11.
Thankfully, he was saved by the attending physician at the hospital’s emergency room.
The good news, however, came to an abrupt end when the father complained that his son’s clothing was damaged and that contents of his pockets were gone.
Because of this, the father demanded the doctor to pay 1,500 yuan ($227) in compensation.
After some negotiations, the doctor paid 1,000 yuan ($152).
“For some people, 1,000 yuan is not a big deal, but for him, it was probably very important,” he told reporters, according to Beijing News.
Chinese netizens quickly caught up with the story, hailing the doctor as a “saint” and the father a “piece of trash,” Shanghaiist noted.
“Crazy for money.”
“This kind of person has really no conscience.”
“With what this father prioritizes, it seems that his son is worthless.”
“Perhaps doctors should ask for clothing insurance next time.”
“You can save some people’s bodies, but not their souls.”
