‘Police SOP requires Musa to be seen by govt doctor’

KOTA KINABALU: Deputy Home Minister Azis Jamman said no one is above the law and that includes former chief minister Musa Aman who returned to Malaysia yesterday.

Azis said police investigations into Musa would proceed according to the department’s standard operating procedures (SOP) while he received treatment in Kuala Lumpur.

According to the police SOP, he said, the former Sabah Barisan Nasional chief would be placed in a government hospital to have his health assessed by a government doctor and not by a private doctor.

“We must stress here that no one in this country is above the law. That means no one will escape if found to have violated the country’s laws.

“While receiving treatment, Tan Sri Musa will be placed under police supervision. The doctor will also ascertain his level of health based on the fixed SOP,” he was quoted as saying by an online news portal here today.

Musa is wanted by police to help in investigations over alleged criminal intimidation threats made to Sabah head of state Juhar Mahiruddin.

Juhar lodged a report on May 14, the same day Musa was said to have left the country to seek treatment in the United Kingdom.

Azis said he trusted police would conduct a proper and thorough probe and complete the investigation soon.

The Sepanggar MP was asked to comment on Musa’s status, with the Sungai Sibuga assemblyman said to be receiving treatment at the Subang Jaya Medical Centre in Selangor after flying in yesterday evening.

“All sides are urged to cooperate and not comment on the matter until investigations are carried out by the authorities,” he was quoted as saying.

Sabah police chief Ramli Din had earlier today said police would give Musa a few days to recover before questioning him.

He said it was not a special treatment but consideration was given based on humanitarian grounds.

Immigration director-general Mustafar Ali confirmed in a statement that Musa and his entourage landed at the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang at 6.45pm yesterday.

Mustafar said Musa could not present himself at the immigration counter due to health reasons but immigration personnel managed to check his immigration details.

He said the police and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) were also informed of Musa’s return. -FMT
