Gov't to decide on releasing CEP report after studying it
The government will only decide whether to release the Council of Eminent Persons’ report to the cabinet after considering its findings, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Liew Vui Keong.
In a written parliamentary reply to Lim Kit Siang (DAP-Iskandar Puteri) yesterday, Liew said the government is still studying the CEP’s recommendations in the report.
Liew said the report is still being looked into and the suggestion by MPs for the report to be made public would only be decided upon after it has been studied.
“What is more important is that the Pakatan Harapan government will always be sensitive to all matters and views raised in the report,” Liew, who is in charge of law, said.
He also stressed that the CEP is only an advisory body with no powers. Hence, it is up to the cabinet or the Parliament to decide on whether to adopt its findings.
The CEP was set up from May 12 to Aug 19 this year, to advise the newly formed Harapan-led federal government.
Its members were former finance minister Daim Zainuddin, who sat as the council’s chairperson, as well former Bank Negara governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz, former Petronas president Mohd Hassan Marican, economist Jomo Kwame Sundaram and tycoon Robert Kuok. - Mkini
