PETALING JAYA: Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) president Mohamad Sabu says the party will not blacklist PAS MPs who may want to join Amanah if the Islamist party and Umno unites.
Mohamad took potshots at PAS and Umno for still wanting to come together despite losing the past general election.
"They have been 'whispering' together about uniting even when I was in PAS.
"Did they think that I who was then the deputy president of PAS not know of them whispering to each other (of uniting)?" asked Mohamad.
Mohamad, who is also the Defence Minister, said this at the launching of the Selangor Amanah convention on Sunday (Nov 18).
At a press conference later, Mohamad said he "prays" that Umno and PAS do not unite in secret but in full view of others.
"I want them to be together," said Mohamad.
Despite the attendance of ministers, the Selangor state convention was a toned down affair at a multi-purpose hall in USJ, attended by about 400 people.
Earlier in his speech which touched on problems faced by Muslims across the globe, Mohamad said it fell to Amanah to ensure that the Muslims in this country live in peace.
"Islamic countries are famous for exporting refugees but Islamic books are being translated in Japan (a non-Muslim country).
"Is it a wonder that our Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is looking towards Japan for the good values practised there?" Mohamad asked.- Star
