'Infiltrators' may have sabotaged PKR polls, says Wan Azizah

PKR POLLS | Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail has attributed the chaos surrounding the party polls to the proliferation of party members and the possibility of infiltrators intent on causing disruption from within.
The outgoing PKR president was responding to questions regarding polling in the Julau division, which has been marred by a series of incidents, most recently allegations of a "cyber attack."
"I leave it to the party's central election committee. It is certainly difficult as the party has expanded.
"In the past, the number of members was small and now it has grown.
"We cannot deny that many issues arise could arise because of this, and we cannot rule out the possibility of infiltrators from elsewhere trying to ruin the party," she told reporters at the closing ceremony of 2018 Pergerakan Puteri Islam Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur.
Commenting on the alleged cyber attacks, Wan Azizah urged the election committee to conduct investigations and identify the root cause of the matter.
"The number of members has grown, and we want to know if logistics is an issue for the election committee.
"They are entrusted to solve this problem neutrally," she said, adding that she herself is remaining neutral despite having her preferred candidates.
Polling for the Julau division was disrupted yesterday after PKR deputy presidential candidate Rafizi Ramli claimed that "malware" had been installed on tablets used for e-voting.
There were claims that a PKR election officer had been seen manipulating the tablets to install an application named Prey.
Subsequently, the party's central election committee suspended the results from the Julau division polls after an alleged "cyber attack".
Tech blogger Keith Rozario later rubbished claims that Prey is malware, and said it is a well established anti-theft application which companies use to protect their devices.
Following the incident, police in Sarikei arrested a PKR election officer yesterday to facilitate investigations.  - Mkini
