PKR members allege vote buying at piles clinic during Lanang polls
PKR POLLS | Allegations of money politics have surfaced during the Lanang PKR division elections yesterday after a group of party members had allegedly exchanged their voting receipts for money at a piles clinic nearby the polling centre in Sibu, Sarawak.
PKR sources claimed that a group of Iban voters brought their receipts into the clinic, which also offered treatment for male sexual capability disorder, and handed them over to a representative of a contesting division chief.
It is understood that the polling centre for Lanang PKR division was located nearby the piles clinic.
A police report over the alleged incident was lodged at the Sibu police station earlier today by Shatiri Mansor, a representative for PKR deputy presidential contender Rafizi Ramli.
According to the report sighted by Malaysiakini, Shatiri said he, together with five other representatives and observers for Rafizi, witnessed "suspicious activities" which they believe were linked to money politics in the polling process.
"On this matter, we are ready to cooperate and assist in the investigations if required to do so, in order to uphold PKR's integrity as a party that rejects money politics," said Shatiri.
When contacted, Sarawak PKR election coordinator Desmond Kho said the state committee was not aware of the vote buying allegations in Lanang.
He added that the voting process in Sarawak would end today, and hoped that members would keep an open heart.
"Win or lose, we are all party members.
"Emotions will run high during elections but there will be a time to come together," he told Malaysiakini.
On the first day of voting in Sarawak yesterday, results from the Julau division were suspended after what the party election committee claims was a "cyber attack".
Sarawak PKR chief Baru Bian, meanwhile, said that a report would be lodged with the MACC over alleged abuse of power by outsiders to derail its Lawas division polls.
There are about 50,000 PKR members in Sarawak and 22 divisions, including Lanang, Julau and Lawas, voted yesterday.
Seven more divisions will vote today. - Mkini
