Wise decision to quit 'sinking ship' Umno, Mat Sabu says of recent exodus

Umno leaders who recently quit the party have made a wise decision, according to Amanah president Mohamad Sabu, who likened Umno to a "sinking ship" that should be abandoned by its members.

While saying that the leaders would not be a problem to Pakatan Harapan, he stressed that the ruling coalition would need to discuss accepting them into any of its parties.

"(They) won't be a burden. They can quit (Umno) and do their work from outside (as independent members).

"And we will discuss later should there be any application to join any (Harapan) party. We will have to discuss their position, especially those who had high ranks (in Umno).

"But their decision to leave Umno is a very wise step. The ship is sinking, so it is better for everybody to just get out from it," Mohamad told reporters during a press conference at Amanah Convention 2018 in Ipoh, Perak, this morning.

On Wednesday, more than a dozen Sabah Umno MPs and state assemblypersons quit the party and pledged their support for Harapan and Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

The MPs who quit included Beluran MP Ronald Kiandee, Abdul Rahim Bakri (Kudat), Azizah Mohd Dun (Beaufort) and Zakaria Mohd Edris (Libaran).
