Singapore: Second Link motorcycle toll charges gone from Jan 21

Singapore has today reaffirmed its earlier commitment to match Malaysia removal of motorcycle toll charges at the Malaysia-Singapore Second Link Expressway (Linkedua).
The removal of the toll charges at the Tuas Second Link toll checkpoint on Singapore's side of the bridge would come into effect on January 21, the island republic's Transport Ministry said today.
“We note Malaysia’s removal of motorcycle toll charges at the Second Link.
"Singapore’s long-standing policy is to match Malaysia’s toll rates. Singapore will match the removal of motorcycle tolls at the Second Link from 21 Jan 2019," read the statement.
This comes after Malaysia's Deputy Works Minister Mohd Anuar Mohd Tahir announced the abolishing of toll collection for motorcycles at the Tanjung Kupang Toll Plaza near Gelang Patah, Johor, would some into force from midnight today.
Anuar had said that the move is expected to benefit some 50,000 residents around Johor Bahru who utilise the route daily.
The removal of the toll charges, set at RM1.10 for motorcyclists, was initially announced by Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng when tabling Budget 2019 last November.
In response, the island republic stated it too would abolish the 40 cents (RM 1.21) toll for motorcyclists at the Tuas checkpoint.
However, it was earlier set to come into effect on Jan 1. - Mkini
