The MPs we elected are behaving badly

It is sad to watch how the national leaders Malaysians elected as their representatives in Parliament behave. Members of Parliament are political leaders whom the people have elected. Their conduct is being watched daily. How they dress, what they saw and how they behave?

They are expected to behave morally and be free from corruption, not abusing their public role. This is a very responsible role and each one in government and in the opposition are role models for the nation. The people in your constituency have put their trust in you.

However, we see daily their un-parliamentary conduct. So, as a citizen of Malaysia and a taxpaying one, I call on all MPs to restrain themselves - their speech and conduct in Parliament. Your conduct is unbecoming and it is a bad example for young people and for the future of the nation.

An appeal to government ministers and deputy ministers: please be professional in your role. State the facts in your answers and restrain from political speeches in parliament.

Explain government policy and justify the decisions. Stop taking political shots at the previous government. Misconducts, such as corruption cases, are all before the courts of law and let the due process of law take its time.

For MPs, both in the backbench and in the opposition, it is best to be honourable in your speeches. Treat one another with respect. Stop obstructing parliamentary sessions. I call upon all to refrain from name-calling, especially words which do not enhance parliamentary debate.

Be part of the parliamentary reform. Work towards bipartisan consensus. Be part of the democratic reform for good governance and greater accountability. Restore dignity to parliamentary debates and let us be proud of all of you. - Mkini
