JOHOR BARU: A group of Chinese tourists managed to escape from a bus which caught fire at KM97.2 along the North-South Expressway near Ayer Hitam.

Yong Peng Fire and Rescue Department operation officer Khairul Nizam Aresat said that the bus, which was ferrying 31 people including 29 Chinese tourists, was headed north to Melaka from Johor Baru on Sunday (May 26).

"We received a distress call about the incident at around 2.31pm and two fire engines with 13 firemen from the Yong Peng and Ayer Hitam stations were deployed.

"The operation ended at around 3.45pm and everyone, including the bus driver and the tour guide, were unharmed," he said in a statement here on Sunday (May 26).- Star
