Dr Wee: Where are all the ministers? Are they campaigning in Tanjung Piai?

KUALA LUMPUR: MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong has questioned whether campaigning by ministers during their office hours is permissible.
This was raised by Dr Wee after noticing that Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali was the only minister present in Dewan Rakyat as it was his turn to wind up his ministry's reply on Budget 2020 debates on Monday (Nov 11).
"Where have all the Cabinet ministers gone? Are they campaigning in Tanjung Piai?
"Oh yes of course, the 8th PM is campaigning in Tanjung Piai today.
"Heard that ministers cannot campaign during office hours, true or not? Not sure, best ask SPR & Bersih," Dr Wee said in a Facebook post on Monday.
SPR is the Election Commission while Bersih 2.0 is the election watchdog.
Dr Wee, who is Ayer Hitam MP, said that although he was physically drained due to campaigning, he still makes it a point to attend Parliament proceedings.
He ended his posting with the hastag #LawanTetapLawan, a catchphrase used during campaigning.
The by-election for the Tanjung Piai parliamentary seat is being held following the death of Dr Md Farid Md Rafik, who was also Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, on Sept 21.
In GE14, Dr Md Farid won the seat with a slim 524-vote majority over Barisan Nasional's Datuk Seri Dr Wee Jeck Seng and PAS' Nordin Othman.
The by-election this Saturday (Nov 16) will see a six-cornered fight between Jeck Seng, Barisan Jemaah Ismiah Se-Malaysia's (Berjasa) president Badhrulhisham Abdul Aziz, Pakatan Harapan's Karmaine Sardini, Gerakan deputy secretary-general Wendy Subramaniam, independents Faridah Aryani Abdul Ghaffar and Ng Chuan Lock.
