SHOULD TOMMY LET ZAHID & LOKMAN GO JUST BECAUSE THEY ARE UMNO BIG GUNS? CITE DUO FOR SHOWING CONTEMPT OVER JUDGE’S DECISION IN SRC CASE – RAMKARPAL TELLS A-G TO START GETTING TOUGH

THE attorney-general must initiate contempt proceedings against two Umno leaders, including its president, for allegedly undermining the judiciary, said DAP leader Ramkarpal Singh.
He said both Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and his supreme council member Lokman Noor Adam had made claims bordering on contempt.
The DAP legal bureau chairman said Zahid had made reckless allegations against the judiciary in relation to the acquittal of a Johor Baru woman of reckless driving which caused the deaths of eight teenage cyclists.
He said Lokman followed up on his party president by saying today that Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad is interfering in former prime minister Najib Razak’s SRC International case.
“This is another serious allegation bordering on contempt of court, coming so soon after Zahid’s equally reckless allegations against the judiciary,” Ramkarpal said in a statement.
Lokman was today quoted by Malaysiakini as saying that he was aware of Dr Mahathir’s interference from the beginning, adding that the case against Najib would have been dropped without calling for defence otherwise.
“There can be no doubt that Lokman’s said allegation undermines public confidence in the judiciary and ridicules, scandalises and offends the dignity, impartiality and integrity of the court.
“I have called on the attorney-general to initiate contempt proceedings against Zahid for his said remarks and I note various police reports have since been lodged against Zahid pertaining to his said allegation.
“The A-G must initiate contempt proceedings against both Zahid and Lokman in respect of their said serious allegations against the judiciary, failing which, it is likely that more of such reckless allegations will be made in the future, as evident in the case of Lokman today,”   said Ramkarpal.
