Umno supreme council picks Saarani to be next Perak MB - Zahidi

 

The Umno supreme council has unanimously agreed to nominate Kota Tampan assemblyperson Saarani Mohammad as the party's choice to be next Perak menteri besar, according to supreme council member Zahidi Zainul Abidin.

"Unanimous," he said when asked about the matter as he left the supreme council meeting at Putra World Trade Centre tonight.

"Yes, that's correct," he said when asked again for confirmation.

However, other supreme council members were tight-lipped when approached by reporters regarding today's proceedings.

Saarani (below) himself, among others, only replied: "Wait for tomorrow."

Meanwhile, Kinabatangan MP Bung Moktar Radin said the meeting was aimed at strengthening the party as well as to discuss the upcoming Umno general assembly.

The meeting today was held following Bersatu deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu's ouster from his post as Perak menteri besar after failing to garner majority support in a motion of confidence tabled by Pengkalan Baru assemblyperson Abdul Manaf Hashim.

He only managed 10 votes in support of his leadership compared to 48 votes cast against him. One vote was either spoiled or abstained.

Meanwhile in a statement today, Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan said the meeting today had discussed the political situation in Perak.

"The meeting has decided that the Perikatan Nasional government in Perak involving Umno, PAS, and Bersatu assemblypersons needs to be preserved," he said. - Mkini
