PPBM chastises ‘ill-timed’ politicking during pandemic
PETALING JAYA: PPBM has criticised the inappropriate and continuous politicking by certain quarters in the midst of a pandemic and at a time when the nation was struck by floods.
The party’s information chief, Wan Saiful Wan Jan, described such actions as “ill-timed”, especially when the people were enduring such challenges.
While he did not refer to anyone in particular, his statement came moments after Umno deferred any decision on the party’s support for PPBM to its annual general assembly at the end of this month.
Another motion that Umno would raise at its AGM was for calling snap elections by the end of March.
However, Wan Saiful said the party would continue to focus on efforts to improve the wellbeing of the rakyat.
He also said the party was in the opinion that elections should only be held once the Covid-19 outbreak had been contained.
“For now, we will focus our efforts and energy on combating the pandemic and reviving the economy.”
Wan Saiful said PPBM will also focus on strengthening the political cooperation among Perikatan Nasional (PN) components, namely PAS, STAR and SAPP.
Several days ago, almost three-quarters of Umno’s 191 divisions told the party’s leadership they did not want to cooperate with PPBM in the next general election.
Over the weekend, ties between Umno and PPBM reached breaking point, with leaders from Umno openly training their guns on PN.
Several prominent Umno leaders called on their party to withdraw its support for the government.
Party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had reportedly told Umno MPs to step down from their posts in government and government agencies by the end of this month, although Zahid had dismissed the report. - FMT
