99 Covid-19 ‘actual deaths’ reported yesterday
PETALING JAYA: A total of 99 new Covid-19 deaths were recorded yesterday, according to the CovidNow website.
The latest deaths are among the 292 casualties reported by the health ministry. The others are backlog cases. One hundred and six were “brought in dead”.
They bring the total number of deaths to 20,711.
At a media briefing on the ministry’s new CovidNow database yesterday, ministry officials said the number of reported deaths included deaths confirmed on that day to be due to Covid-19, even if they had occurred before that date.
The same applied to “brought in dead” cases.
They said a more accurate picture of the situation could be gleaned from the “actual deaths” figure, represented by the black line on the CovidNow graph, which captures the number of deaths confirmed to have occurred on a particular day.
The ministry also reported 237,277 active cases as of yesterday. The number includes 1,338 patients being treated in intensive care with 721 requiring respiratory assistance.
In addition, 197,225 (83.1%) are under home quarantine, 25,635 (10.8%) are at quarantine and treatment centres and 13,079 (5.5%) have been hospitalised.
In yesterday’s statement, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also announced that there had been 19,198 new Covid-19 cases as of midday, bringing the total number of infections to 1,979,698.
There were also 20,980 recoveries, bringing the cumulative number of those discharged to 1,721,713. - FMT
