Upko absent from Harapan line-up because entry being formalised - Fahmi

 

Upko's absence from the Pakatan Harapan line-up unveiled yesterday was because the Sabah-based party's entry into the coalition has yet to be formalised, PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil said.

Fahmi (above), who was also appointed the Harapan communications director, said Upko president Wilfred Madius Tangau is expected to finalise the documentation today.

"We have not formally registered Upko with Harapan yet because there are a lot of computations needed.

"The Upko president will meet with the Harapan leadership today... to finalise everything and pass the documents," he added.

Fahmi said Upko will be incorporated in Harapan's future announcements once the registration is formalised.

Yesterday, the Harapan presidential council announced several appointments to help solidify the opposition coalition ahead of the 15th general election.

Among others, PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution will act as Harapan's chief secretary.

DAP Youth chief Howard Lee and Amanah Wanita chief Aiman Athirah will head the coalition's youth and women wings respectively.

Other notable appointments included Amanah deputy president Salahuddin Ayub as the new Harapan strategies director and DAP national organising secretary Anthony Loke as the coalition's chief whip. - Mkini
