Actor slammed for allegedly making jokes about rape
Actor Mohd Fauzi Mohd Nawawi has sparked outrage on the internet over a viral talk show clip of his comments on filming a rape scene involving co-star Raja Farah Raja Aziz in the 2007 film 'Anak Halal'.
Netizens and NGOs including the All Women’s Action Society Malaysia (Awam) took to social media to slam the actor for allegedly making jokes about rape.
In a tweet, Awam said the actor, alongside the talk show hosts and guests, was alluding to rape as a kink.
“Five prominent people in the local media industry, talking about performing rape like it’s a kink.
“Rape is not a joke. ‘Pleasant’ should be the last thing in mind when talking about this,” Awam said.
In the clip, Fauzi (above) — who is generally cast as a villain in movies — was asked during talk show Rumah 107 on which villainous scenes he liked best.
The 48-year-old responded by saying he preferred rape scenes, which led to a conversation on rape scenes between him and other male actors on the show.
He then talked about a deleted scene in ‘Anak Halal’ where his character was made to rape another character played by Raja Farah.
He commented in detail about the “positions” made by his co-star, later stating he had to control his exhaustion as well as his nafsu (lust) during filming of the scene.
Public apology
According to Utusan Malaysia, Fauzi made a public apology around 1am today, clarifying he had no intention of embarrassing anyone and admitted his fault over the comment.
“I apologise to everyone who spread the recording of the television programme, including all those who were affected by it, especially Raja Farah, her husband and family.
"I admit I was ignorant, it's not good but I'm improving myself for the better. To the sensitive and affected, I apologise from head to toe. There was no intention to embarrass and I do not want this matter to be extended.
"To netizens who were willing to insult my mother, family and children, I also forgive you and accept that it is out of concern and love, that’s why they are willing to insult. Thanks for reminding me rudely or kindly. I accept willingly," he said.
