Covid-19 deaths (Oct 4): 118 reported fatalities, total at 26,683

 

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry's Github data repository reported 118 Covid-19 fatalities yesterday (Oct 3), bringing the cumulative death toll to 26,683.

From the newly reported deaths yesterday, 22.9 percent or 27 died before they could receive treatment at a hospital.

Perak recorded the highest number of new deaths at 26, making up 22.0 percent of the newly reported fatalities.

The remaining deaths were in Penang (14), Sabah (14), Kedah (13), Sarawak (12), Johor (11), Kelantan (9), Selangor (8), Pahang (3), Malacca (2), Negeri Sembilan (2), Perlis (1), Terengganu (1), Kuala Lumpur (1) and Labuan (1).

No new deaths were reported in Putrajaya.

A total of 95 out of the 118 reported deaths or 80.5 percent happened in the last seven days.

The remaining deaths happened more than a week ago but were only recorded yesterday due to delays in data reporting.

An average of 305 Covid-19 deaths was reported daily in the last 30 days compared to the seven-day average of 178, indicating a downtrend.

As of yesterday, there were 150,317 active Covid-19 cases. This is a reduction of 18.0 percent from the 183,289 active infections a week ago.

Compared to 30 days ago, the number of active cases has fallen by 42.0 percent from 259,192.

The Health Ministry's post-midnight update also provided further insights into the new Covid-19 infections yesterday.

From the 9,066 new cases yesterday, 388 could be traced to ongoing Covid-19 clusters.

From the cluster-linked cases, 224 (57.7 percent) were from community transmissions while 140 (36.1 percent) were from workplaces.

Another 17 (4.4 percent) were from clusters linked to high-risk groups such as old folks' homes.

The remaining cases were traced to clusters related to detention centres (5 - 1.3 percent), religious events (1 - 0.3 percent), and education institutions (1 - 0.3 percent).

Previously, the Health Ministry released deaths statistics together with the number of new Covid-19 cases in the evening. This had since changed.

Deaths statistics are now released after midnight along with other more detailed data. Malaysiakini reports them in the morning.
