MIC has no qualms with Zahid offering Makkal Sakthi seats for GE15

MIC president S Vigneswaran said his party has no qualms with BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi offering a place to Makkal Sakthi to contest in the next general election.

Vigneswaran (above) said this was because there were no overlaps with MIC's traditional seats.

"There's no problem. The matter can be discussed during the election season.

"For now, there is no clash between BN component parties and MIC for the seats we contest.

"Based on this principle, there is no issue with the offer made to Makkal Sakthi," he told journalists after the party's central working committee meeting at the MIC headquarters in Kuala Lumpur last night.

Vigneswaran said MIC is not out to block any party.

"We're not stopping anyone but we give our views about what is important to MIC.

"It's not true if anyone says MIC is angry or jealous that others are being given seats. We do not think of it," he said.

However, he said, the matter has yet to be discussed in the BN.

Makkal Sakthi is not part of BN but is a BN-friendly party. BN comprises Umno, MCA, MIC and PBRS.

Vigneswaran said he does not rule out Zahid offering seats to other BN-friendly parties.

"I believe Zahid may also offer seats to other parties such as the Indian Progressive Front (IPF), Malaysian Indian Muslim Congress (Kimma) and Malaysian Indian United Party (MIUP). We will discuss this in BN.

"For now, MIC is contesting in 11 parliamentary seats that suit us. Those that are not suitable, we will give to other BN components to contest," he said.

Earlier, Vigneswaran also announced details about MIC's forthcoming party leadership election.

"For the wings, the nomination date will be on Oct 10 and the election will be on Oct 17.

"For the divisional level, the nomination date is on Oct 17 and the election is on Oct 24," he said.

Vigneswaran added that the election for the central body will take place in November.

He said the nomination for the central committee will take place on Nov 20, with the election to be held on Nov 27. - Mkini
