HADI’S RM90MIL DEAD-END FOR NAJIB? FEELING THE BACKLASH OF MALAY DISTRUST FOR NAJIB, PAS STARTS TO EXTEND OLIVE BRANCH TO DAP & AMANAH

PAS surprised many within political circles when it invited all parties, including Amanah and DAP with whom it is having a bitter feud, to its Hari Raya open house over the weekend.

At the event in Temerloh, the Islamist party announced that it will be holding a roundtable discussion to debate the 1MDB issue, another surprise revelation as party president Abdul Hadi Awang had refused to condemn the BN administration for the multi-billion-dollar scandal, dismissing the United States’ Department of Justice’s (DoJ) civil suits against 1MDB as “foreign intervention”.

“PAS Pahang Commissioner Rosli Abdul Jabar invited all members of parliament, including from DAP and Amanah,” PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man told The Malaysian Insight.

Party information chief Nasrudin Hassan said the Hari Raya open house was an act of uniting  fellow Muslims.

“Alhamdulillah, representatives of Ikatan, PKR, Bersatu, Umno, non-government organisations and civil societies were present, apart from Amanah and DAP, who could not make it even though we invited all political parties to join in the festivities,” said the Temerloh MP on his Facebook page.

Pahang DAP chairman Leong Ngah Ngah confirmed he had received PAS’ invitation, but was unable to make it due to other commitments.

“If I had been free, I would have definitely attended.

“Even though we have political differences, this is a religious celebration, I have no problem attending it in my individual capacity,” said Leong, who is also state legislator for Tanah Rata.

However, Amanah Pahang chairman Dr Hamzah Jaafar said he did not receive his invitation to the PAS open house.

“Until today, as the chairman of Amanah Pahang, I have not received any invitation.

“Usually, invitations are sent to the chairman and secretary, but my secretary has not received anything either,” Hamzah told The Malaysian Insight.

1MDB scandal unravelled

Unlike Hadi, PAS acting president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man has been consistent in his criticisms of the 1MDB scandal.

In spite of the comments from his PAS colleagues, who are largely seen to be Umno-friendly, Tuan Ibrahim has continued to raise questions about the 1MDB controversy, which is being investigated in other countries such as the United States, Switzerland and Singapore.

At the open house, Tuan Ibrahim said he will invite former chairman of 1MDB, Mohamad Bakke Salleh, former Selangor menteri besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, and former assistant to the United Nations secretary general Dr Jomo Kwame Sundram to the roundtable debate.

He said the August 7 discussion will also include experts from academia and the finance industry.

He said the programme is aimed at hearing the arguments surrounding the country’s largest financial scandal in history.

“We will listen to the discussions before we decide what to do next,” said Tuan Ibrahim.
