Ringgit pauses after 6-day drop amid fiscal concern
TOKYO (May 17): Ringgit consolidates after a six-day decline, but the currency is predicted to stay under pressure, amid concern over the new government’s fiscal policies.
* Malaysia on Wednesday scrapped a 6% rate on its goods-and-services tax as promised by new Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad during the election campaign.
* USD/MYR little changed Thursday at 3.9700, after dropping 0.9% during prior six days.
* 10-year govt bond yield climbs 2bps to 4.21%.
