Naomi Osaka Reveals What Serena Williams Whispered to Her After Match as People Booed

Naomi Osaka, the winner of the recent 2018 U.S. Open Tennis Championships, revealed what Serena Williams whispered to her during the trophy ceremony of the tournament as the crowd’s boos echo through the stadium.

Appearing on “The Ellen Show,” the 20-year-old Grand Slam champion told host Ellen DeGeneres that Williams explained to her that the crowd’s negative reaction to the situation was not aimed towards the Haitian- Japanese athlete.

“She said that she was proud of me and that I should know that the crowd wasn’t booing at me,” Osaka said. “At the time, I did … think that they were booing at me. I couldn’t tell what was going on, because it was just so loud in there. It was a little bit stressful.”

Osaka managed to beat Williams with the final score of 6-2 and 6-4 in the tournament on Saturday, September 8 at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York. She became the first ever Japanese player to ever win the Grand Slam final.

After the controversial match, Williams immediately embraced the young athlete once she noticed that Osaka pulled down her visor and started to cry while the loud boos echo in the stadium.

William’s message wasn’t the only discussion that DeGeneres and Osaka talked about in the episode. The show host managed to get the young athlete to spill the beans on who her celebrity crush. It turns out that she fancies “Black Panther” star, Michael B. Jordan.

After discovering she has a crush on the 31-year-old actor, DeGeneres continued to tease the athlete by taking a selfie with her and told her that she will send the picture to the actor saying, “let’s just see what he says.”

“You’re stressing me out. I’m too young to be stressed out like this,” Osaka quipped after DeGeneres put her phone down.
