Equanimity in good condition, says sales agent
The 1MDB-linked superyacht Equanimity is in good condition, says brokerage house Burgess, which has been tasked with selling the vessel.
"The yacht is in good condition, in a safe environment, berthed at the Port Klang cruise ship terminal in Malaysia, and is being taken care of by a professional yacht crew under the supervision of a specialised yacht management company," Burgess said in a statement to website SuperyachtNews.
Burgess was appointed by the High Court of Malaya to sell off the Equanimity last Friday.
Bidding for the yacht will be sealed, and will be considered by the High Court at the end of November.
There is no published asking price or reserve price.
According to the US Department of Justice (DOJ), fugitive businessperson Jho Low had allegedly acquired the vessel for US$250 million, using funds misappropriated from 1MDB.
The vessel, measuring 91.5 metres in length, with a crew of 17, was first seized by Indonesian authorities on Feb 28, and has since been the subject of a legal battle between the US Department of Justice and a group of companies said to be owned by Low.
It was reported that 1MDB had claimed ownership of the vessel last August.
It is believed that Indonesia agreed to hand over the vessel to Malaysia after a meeting between Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Indonesian President Joko Widodo.
The vessel is docked at the Boustead Cruise Centre in Port Klang and the maintenance cost for the luxury yacht is said to be RM2 million a month. -Mkini
