Ride in Mat Sabu’s car: Because no time to talk, says Anwar

10.00pm: Lukut – In his speech at the Regent Hall in Lukut, Anwar explains to the crowd of over 1,500 that he rode in Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu’s official car on Oct 3 because they did not have enough time to talk to each other.

“We have to follow the rules and laws, we respect clean administration, and respect the election commission, we cannot abuse our power. But, don’t be too much.

“On that day, Mat Sabu came here and I want to talk to him but we did not have enough time because he had to go back soon. Therefore I said that I would ride in his car. When I rode in his car, (people said) cannot, it’s wrong (to do so). He also cannot ride in my car because there is some protocol in the army.

“I just rode in his car from one place to go to another place, they said that this is wrong. This cannot be,” he said.

Anwar stresses that he is willing to respect the principles of a clean and fair election.

He also reminds the crowd that the food which they are eating is not paid by him.

“I am the candidate. I was invited here, but the food is not paid by me, please understand this.”
Meanwhile, chairperson of the organising committee Yong Ah Ong confirms with Malaysiakini that the people who attended the dinner bought the tickets priced RM50 or RM100 per person.

Umno members want to see me – PAS candidate

9.30pm: Kampung Batu Tembok, Linggi – PAS candidate Mohd Nazari Mokhtar says many Umno members want to see him.

He adds that some Umno members requested him to visit their place but he was unable to fulfil their wishes.

“My campaign schedule is tight and fixed,” says Nazari, who promises to promote the musang king durian as part of an eco-tourism product.

“There are two golf courses in Port Dickson and I wish to promote golf as a tourism product (as well),” he says in a ceramah.

The ceramah is affected by five-hour rain and only 50 supporters and members show up.

They are waiting for the arrival of Hadi.

Hadi seeks forum with Dr M

5.20pm: Teluk Kemang – PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang says at a press conference that it would be good to have the opportunity to speak at forum together with Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

He says this when asked to comment on Mahathir’s plans to campaign for Harapan candidate Anwar Ibrahim tomorrow.

Anwar grilled at cooking event as Saiful repeats allegation

3.20pm: D’wharf Hotel – As Harapan candidate Anwar Ibrahim attends a programme with chef Fazley Yaakob, he is questioned on fellow by-election candidate Mohamad Saiful Bukhari Azlan once again bringing up the accusation that he was sodomised by the former.

“Let him be… let him be,” is all the Pakatan Harapan de facto leader will say on the matter.

Anwar was convicted of sodomising Saiful, his then personal aide, in 2008, a decision the Federal Court upheld in 2015. Anwar, however, received a full pardon after the 14th general election in May.

Wan Azizah visits poor families in PD

2pm: Bagan Pinang – On the campaign trail for her husband, Pakatan Harapan candidate Anwar Ibrahim, Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail visits low-income families in Kampung Paya.

As Bernama reports, a member of one of these families, Zaiton Mihat, was overjoyed with Wan Azizah’s visit, having never had a national leader appear in her house before.

“I really did not expect the deputy prime minister to visit my husband who is suffering from Parkinson’s Disease…I found out about her visit last night. This is the first time I am meeting Wan Azizah.

“I am grateful for her concern and that she is visiting us.

“She reminded my husband to keep taking the medication,” she tells reporters.
