Poh Kong to gift large gold plaque to Dr M's foundation

Jeweller Poh Kong said it will hand over a large version of a gold token of Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, which was unveiled yesterday, as a gift to his Perdana Leadership Foundation.

Poh Kong's head of corporate affairs Margaret Hon said the large framed version of the Gold Note of Hope, signed by Mahathir yesterday, will be kept by the jeweller's managing director's office and exhibited at select events.

"This Gold Note of Hope will remain as property of Poh Kong Holdings Bhd and will not be up for sale.

"Arrangements have been made for another large version of the Gold Note of Hope to be presented to the Perdana Leadership Foundation as a gift to be part of the exhibition gallery for all Malaysians to admire," Hon said.

Each large version of the Gold Note of Hope contains 0.3g of fine gold.

Malaysiakini understands that the one Poh Kong will keep is valued at RM3,000, inclusive of its frame.

The large tokens are blown up versions of the Gold Note of Hope tokens which Poh Kong is selling at RM160 per piece.

Poh Kong said it will donate RM30 from each sale of the 0.1g fine gold tokens to Tabung Harapan Malaysia, on top of the RM1 million it had pledged to the fund.

Mahathir is the chairperson of the Perdana Leadership Foundation, which is also his base of operations in Putrajaya.

The foundation reportedly does not receive government funding and sits on private landsponsored by the business community.

In June, Mahathir announced the government will be enforcing a no-gift policy – with the exception of flowers, fruits and food – throughout the civil service.

"It cannot be anything more than that. We will reject any cars or anything of that sort, all of those are not allowed," he had said. - Mkini
