Ex-Spad staff plead to PM: Help us with our jobs

A group of about 130 former Land Public Transport Commission (Spad) employees have sent a memorandum to Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad seeking his help over their jobs.
In their memorandum, they claim Transport Minister Anthony Loke promised at a meeting that the former employees would receive their appointment letters by Dec 15, which did not materialise, and urged Mahathir to solve their problem.
"We have been asking our heads of department what is going on, but they are keeping mum.
"We need to know what is happening as this involves our future," a human resources executive, who only wanted to be known as Adli, was reported as saying by The Malaysian Insight today.
These employees were retrenched after Spad, formerly under the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) was disbanded and absorbed into the Transport Ministry.
Adli said some of the former employees, including those who joined Spad as recently as last year, were picked for new placements while others were not.
"Those who have been working for more than seven years in the agency were left out.
"When we asked the management about this, they told us to hold on," said Adli, who has been with Spad since 2015.
Agreement reached with minister
When Pakatan Harapan took over Putrajaya, 937 employees were retrenched and the staff also called for the ministry to keep its promise to provide them jobs
The agreement the retrenched staff reached with the transport minister is said to stipulate that they would get a two-year contract, according to their current positions, as well as compensation.
An employee working in the legal department since 2013 said she is worried about their future as they have still not been informed of any decision.
"It is already the end of the year and we haven't got any confirmation on our job status.
"We need to be informed early, so that we can make preparations for the new school year. The management is being unfair. They should inform us," said the mother of three children. -Mkini
