Musa Aman stays mum on Sabah Umno exodus

Former Sabah Umno chief Musa Aman kept mum today when asked by the press about the exodus from the party’s state chapter while attending court this morning.
Wearing a suit and holding a walking stick, Musa arrived at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court at 8.50am for case management.
This was in regards to the 35 charges laid against the former Sabah chief minister by the MACC on Nov 5 for receiving over US$63 million in alleged bribes in exchange for logging contracts.
As the prosecutor had yet to provide all the documents to the court and the defence was undecided on whether they wanted to transfer the case to the High Court, Judge Rozina Ayob ordered Musa's legal team to finalise their decision in two months’ time.
The court set Feb 20, 2019 for the next case management and ordered the defence to file their application by the new date.
After signing the court documents for bail extension, Musa walked out from the courtroom at 9.45am accompanying by his bodyguards and lawyers.
When approached by the media and asked for his comments on the exodus from Sabah Umno and his current status or position within the party, Musa stayed silent.
More than a dozen Sabah Umno MPs and state assemblypersons, including former allies of ex-prime minister Najib Abdul Razak - Salleh Said Keruak and Pandikar Amin Mulia - left the party and pledged full support for Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s administration yesterday.
Mahathir also confirmed that he had met the lawmakers who quit Sabah Umno, and that they will be welcomed into Pakatan Harapan should they support the ruling coalition and have a clean record.
Meanwhile, DAP lawmaker Lim Lip Eng took a swipe at the mass exit of Sabah Umno lawmakers and their speculated entry into Bersatu, stressing that DAP's stand against party-hopping will remain unchanged.
‘High possibility’ for case transfer
A lawyer for Musa, Amer Hamzah Arshad, said that it was very likely that an application would be filed to transfer Musa's case, but hoped that the prosecutor would provide the documents in full before the defence made its decision.
"There is a high possibility that this case will be transferred…there will be an application filed to the High Court," said Amer.
"But, for us, we want to be satisfied with all documents to be supplied to us, then we will be able to make a more informed decision on whether this case should be transferred," he added. - Mkini
