‘World’s Oldest Person’ Masazo Nonaka Dies at the Age of 113
Masazo Nonaka, a Japanese man who was recognized by Guinness World Record as the oldest living man in the world last year, has died at the age of 113.
Nonaka, who was born in July 1905, the same year when renowned physicist Albert Einstein published the first part of his special theory of general relativity, died peacefully from natural causes at his home in Hokkaido, Japan, according to his granddaughter, Yuko, Huffington Post reported.
“We feel shocked at the loss of this big figure,” she told Kyodo News. “He was as usual yesterday and passed away without causing our family any fuss at all.”
Before running his family’s hot spring inn, Nonaka worked as a farmer and lumberjack. He later married and fathered five children.
Nonaka credited his lifestyle of eating sweets and soaking in the hot spring as his secret to longevity. However, Yuko said that this is most likely due to his stress-free life.
She noted that when Nonaka does not want something, he would make sure that everyone knew about it.
