PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz should not be a provocateur or an antagonist and shouldn't create a war zone in Barisan Nasional, says Umno leader Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan.
The former minister in the Prime Minister's Department and Kota Belud MP said Nazri should not voice his views without consulting Umno first after his remarks about MCA and MIC being free to leave Barisan if they were unhappy.
"As the secretary-general of Barisan, Nazri should be more diplomatic and well-mannered in handling the issues of Barisan.
"He should consult the leadership of Umno and ask their views. If not, the voice of the Barisan sec-gen is not the voice of Umno.
On Monday (March 4), Nazri told MCA and MIC that they were free to leave Barisan if they wanted to do so, adding that it would not be a loss for the coalition.
"They are free to find new alliances and move on with the other parties that have left Barisan after the 14th General Election.
"I do not think it is a loss," he said.
Nazri said this after MCA and MIC decided that they were left with no choice but to move on from Barisan and explore a new alliance to reflect the true meaning of unity in diversity.
Their statement also described Nazri's appointment as Barisan's secretary-general as illegal and not recognised by MCA and MIC.
It said the uncalled for racial remarks by Nazri in Semenyih had further damaged the ties between the three founding parties.
Nazri's repeated racial remarks were perceived to be from Umno, and the party's continued silence had cracked the foundation of mutual respect that Barisan stood for, the statement said.- Star
