Westeros is coming to Kuala Lumpur – although, somewhat disappointingly (for some of us), minus its trademark ultra-violence, dragons, warlords, sex and nudity.

Thanks to the sweet people at HBO Asia, Malaysian fans of hit series Game of Thrones (GoT) will finally get an up-close-and-personal look at the symbol of control over the seven kingdoms – the Iron Throne.

Die-hard followers of GoT are more than familiar with the Iron Throne’s origins and history – it was forged at the order of Aegon the Conqueror, the first of the Targaryen Kings, who captured six of the seven independent kingdoms of Westeros and unified them under his rule. The seventh and final kingdom of Dorne, however, was later joined through a marriage alliance. The throne is believed to be constructed from the 1,000 swords that were surrendered to Aegon in the War of Conquest by lords who offered their fealty, though the actual number of swords is less than two hundred. These were subsequently melted down by the fiery breath of Aegon’s dragon, Balerion the Black Dread, then beaten and bent into a throne of imposing appearance. Balerion the Black Dread, once again, emerged as champion. (Like, totally epic, right?)

Emerging from myth and fantasy and landing right at our doorstep, the Iron Throne (as it appears on the show) will be on display for the rest of this month across the Klang Valley. Visitors wishing to pay homage to the Iron Throne will each get free official GoT goodies (as if being in the presence of the chair wasn’t enough), and a handful of lucky fans will even get the chance to sit on the famous chair. (That is so awesome, we can’t even!).
