Sim refutes claims of meeting ex-UPP president
PETALING JAYA: SUPP President Dr Sim Kui Hian has refuted claims he has met with former UPP president Wong Soon Koh recently.
Sim, when asked by journalists about the rumour, responded with a question rather than clear the air over the speculation.
“Are you sure you’re not mistaken?” he asked journalists when met in his Batu Kawah constituency, the Borneo Post Online reported.
When asked if it was viable for Wong, a former SUPP leader, to return to the party, Sim, the state Minister of Local Government, said he was “very clear” about his stand.
Sim had previously said that the five former UPP leaders, including state Second Finance Minister Wong, who won in the recent state elections, were welcomed to rejoin SUPP, the party they had left in 2014.
In the recent state election, Wong retained his Bawang Assan seat and together with Assistant Minister for Public Health Dr Jerip Susil (Mambong), Tiong Thai King (Dudong), Dr Johnical Rayong Ngipa (Engkilili) and Ranum Mina (Opar) remain without a party, after having resigned from UPP to stand as direct BN candidates.
Last week, Wong told reporters that news reports claiming he would rejoin SUPP had taken him by surprise.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, Sarawak Governor Abdul Taib Mahmud celebrated his 80th birthday at the State Legislative Assembly Complex.
Present to celebrate the special occasion were Deputy Chief Ministers Douglas Uggah Embas and Abang Johari Openg, former Deputy Chief Minister Alfred Jabu Numpang, ministers and family members.
