Cops uncover drug processing lab in Ampang, 12 people arrested
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 13 ― Police uncovered a drug processing syndicate during a raid at a two-storey house in Taman Ampang Utama, Selangor, at noon today.
Twelve people, including six Indian nationals, were detained in the raid. Police also 15 kilogrammes of “Syabu” and a Glock pistol.
The success was announced by the Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar on his official Twitter page today.
“Congratulations STING @PDRMsia for uncovering the drug laboratory in Ampang. Arrested 12 people (6 Indian Nationals) seized 15 kg of Syabu and a Glock pistol. #GoPDRMGo,” he said.
Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Operations Centre chief Samsol Maarif Saibani said 10 officers and personnel from the Hazardous Materials Unit (HAZMAT) were sent to the location to inspect the material that was processed at the laboratory at 1.05pm.
Samsol said the Hazmat team found materials such as iodine, toulene, epidurel, hidrocloric acid, red phosphurus and aceton, believed to be used to process drug.
He said the inspection was conducted to ensure the safety level of the laboratory due to the exposure of the chemicals there before allowing the police to enter the premises.
Following inspection, the laboratory was found safe as the chemicals were in sealed containers,” he added.
Ampang Jaya district police chief ACP Hamzah Alias when contacted by Bernama, said he would hold a press conference soon on the arrest. ― Bernama
