Kelantan police beef up security against Daesh activities

KOTA BARU, Aug 13 ― Policemen in Kelantan have been instructed to always be alert of their surroundings to avoid the state from becoming a transit point for those involved with the Daesh militant activities.

State police chief Datuk Dr Ab Rahman Ismail said the arrest of two suspects in Kuala Krai last on Tuesday, for alleged involvement in Daesh militant activities, proved that the group was making Kelantan its hideout.

“The location of Kelantan which is bordering Thailand is one of the reasons for the authorities to beef up security,” he told Bernama here today.

Ab Rahman said this in response to a statement by Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar today on the arrest of nine suspects in operations carried out from July 21 to Aug 9 in Kuala Lumpur, Johor, Sabah and Kelantan.

“In Kelantan, I have instructed every policeman not to take this (Daesh) threat lightly and to step up security at police stations,” he said.

Government offices, shopping malls and public areas are easy targets for the militant group. Thus, monitoring and security control must be stepped up, he said. ― Bernama
