Abu Sayyaf claims behind blast in Philippine city, death toll rises to 14
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 3 — The Filipino Muslim militant group Abu Sayyaf has claimed responsibility for an explosion in a popular Davao City market last night that killed 14 people and wounded dozens more.
The regional group linked to global terror network the Islamic State (IS) has also warned of more attacks “in the coming days”, Philippine broadcaster ABS-CBN news reported on its website today.
The report cited the militant group’s spokesman Abu Rami said the attack on the hometown of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte was a “call for unity to all mujahideen in the country” following the government’s earlier offensive against the Abu Sayyaf hideouts in Sulu and Basilan, neighbouring Malaysia’s Borneo state of Sabah.
