It had to be done. An African model wanted to show the world of fashion that they exist and the color won’t change the campaign.

Just look at the ads. It’s hard to avoid the fact that the media and marketing are all white. I’m not hating. I just want to find out why.

An African model wants to find out the same thing. Deddeh “DD” Howard shocked the world with her movement.

Alongside her friend, designer, and photographer, Raffael Dickreuter created a campaign by recreating all the famous ads.

The result is breathtaking.

DD spoke on her site about why she decided to do this in a first place.

We are bombarded everyday with flashy [print], billboards and television ads that try to inspire us to buy the products that are hitting the market. Something that always bothered me [is] that very rarely you ever see a black woman on them – says DD.

On top of that:

When growing up as a girl I always wondered, why the big brands such as Gucci, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Guess and many others rarely seem to use a black model? And if they do, a very small group of black models does make the cut here and there, but that group seems to remain pretty much identical over a long period of time.

With this movement, DD wants to raise awareness back to all the positivity and beauty of the black people. That’s rare in the media.

They are too busy making them look good, instead of cherishing life and hard work.

She continues:

In a time where black people too often are in the media for being underrepresented at important events such as the Oscars, or make headlines for being targeted by the police, I felt it was time to do something positive and inspiring about my race. For too long the negativity seemed to take over in the public eye.

Here are some of the campaign pictures.

Way the go girl!

I think I just got my favorite model. She stands up to raise awareness. I hope the other models will join her.
