Body of M’sian mountaineer to be repatriated tomorrow

Syed-Redzuan-Syed-Salim-Shatri

KUALA LUMPUR: The remains of Malaysian climber Syed Redzuan Syed Salim Shatri who died on Mount Damavand in Iran, is expected to be repatriated tomorrow.

Expedition leader, Rozaimi Mohd Said said the body of the 50-year-old would be flown from the Iranian capital of Tehran to Kuala Lumpur at 10pm local time.

“The body was today shrouded here (Tehran) and InsyaAllah (God willing), if everything goes as planned, the remains will arrive at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport on Monday noon.

“Following that, the body will be taken to the Bandar Tun Hussein Onn (BTHO) Mosque in Cheras for a funeral prayer before being taken to the BTHO Muslim cemetery for burial,” he told reporters via WhatsApp application today.

Meanwhile, Rozaimi said the search and rescue (SAR) operations to locate another climber, Ramli Abd Majid, 44, who was still missing in the mountain area would be continued.

“But for now, the bad weather has become a hindrance to them (the SAR team) to resume the mission. Nevertheless, they will continue to monitor the weather and the mission will be continued if it gets better,” he said.

On Nov 20, Syed Redzuan and Ramli Abd Majid, 44, were reported missing on the 5,610 metre-high mountain after being separated from other members of a hiking team.
