Police nab six convenience store robbers wanted in three states
KANGAR, Dec 3 ― Two members of a gang which targeted 24-hour convenience stores in three states were caught red-handed in the midst of robbing a similar outlet in Arau near here early yesterday.
Their arrest by a police team snowballed into the detention of four other accomplices, including the suspected mastermind.
Perlis CID chief Superintendent Azahar Muda said the suspects were on the police ‘Wanted List’ for 12 convenience store robberies in Perlis, Kedah and Penang.
He said the police had been conducting a week-long surveillance before the first two suspects were picked up during the robbery about 4.30 am in Arau.
“The suspected mastermind was nabbed in a car at the Changlun-Kuala Perlis Expressway.
“He was trying to flee the scene after detecting police presence,” he told a press conference here today.
Azahar said subsequently, the police picked up three other members of the gang at their respective homes ― two in Penang and the other in Changlun, Kedah ― and seized four cars believed to have been used in the robberies.
The six suspects, aged between 18 and 32, were being remanded for seven days until Friday to facilitate investigations. ― Bernama
