London’s Trafalgar Square was just evacuated

Trafalgar Square, a top tourist attraction in London, was evacuated on Thursday afternoon.
The Metropolitan Police said the area was cordoned off because of reports of a “suspicious item” in Charing Cross. Armed police were on the scene, according to witness accounts on Twitter.
The incident was quickly “stood down,” however, and the cordon was lifted. It was not treated as terror-related.
London is on high alert after the terror attacks on London Bridge and Borough Market on Saturday. Eight people were killed in the atrocity, while 48 were injured.
The incident Trafalgar Square evacuation produced some eery images and footage of a deserted square. The area is usually bustling with activity in the afternoon, with Nelson’s Column and The National Portrait Gallery being popular attractions.
