Isa remanded for five days to assist in MACC probe

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission today sought seven days remand for former Felda chairperson Isa Samad.

However, Federal Court of Malaya Chief Registrar Zainal Abidin Kamarudin only granted five days following a protest by Isa's lawyer.

Isa was detained in connection with the purchase of two hotels in London and Kuching by Felda Investment Corporation (FIC), after giving a statement at MACC headquarter in Putrajaya yesterday.

His house in Selangor was also raided.

The Felda subsidiary is reported to have bought the four-star hotel in Kensington, London in December 2014 for RM330 million, which allegedly was three times the actual price of the property.

FIC also purchased another hotel in Kuching for RM160 million, which allegedly was some RM50 million above market value.

Isa, who was in MACC lock-up attire and handcuffed, was accompanied by several MACC officers as he arrived at the court at 9.10am in a MACC vehicle, Bernama reported. 

He looked calm and smiled at members of his family, supporters and the reporters who had been waiting there from as early as 8am.

Isa’s wife, Bibi Sharliza Mohd Khalid, who was also in the court compound, shed tears as Isa arrived at the court.

Isa was arrested at about 4.30 pm yesterday at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya after he had gone there to give a statement. - Mkini
